iGuzzini Le Marche - Beaune: Facade video projections by Cosmo & Jose Cristiani

As a result of a convention between the public administration and private entrepreneurs, the municipality of Beaune launched a contest to completely renovate the city’s lighting installation. The goal was to entrust the new public system with the valorisation of the historical heritage of Beaune, the old capital of the Burgundy Dukes: a lighting project for the town, but most of all a spectacular route of lights and images.
The winners Touchard and Cristiani chose approximately thirty places and buildings for which a special lighting scheme was designed, including video projections on the façades. The various parts of the project are linked by coloured signs. Moreover, the city walls will be illuminated with lights that can have different colours to create a chromatic code announcing the different times and activities scheduled by the city throughout the year.

Jean-François Touchard: “Beaune is a small town: buildings are very close to each other, streets are 10 m wide, and this means that your are always very near the buildings. This allowed me to work with leds, a soft light source that made it possible to respect such a vicinity. I worked with floodlights that allowed me to be discreet, integrating and hiding the lighting fixtures in the architecture. The signs were instead obtained with the RGB system. The iGuzzini range gave me the possibility to do it. It was a challenge to use standard products taking full benefit of them”.
Jose Cristiani: “Our town is full of history and we had to tell the story of Beaune. A story told with a special narration, such as videoprojection. It is a real show both for residents and tourists. We used videos to animate some especially important places, while the continuity of the story is entrusted to the general lighting system that creates a relation between the different parts of our project”.
